Walker County Historical Commission Merchandise and Books
Texas is rich in history and proud traditions. Visitors to our local communities appreciate and become enriched by the cultural resources we offer. Southeast Texas is important to our state’s history. Gen. Sam Houston won the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836 which led to the independence of Texas from Mexico. He was the President of the Republic of Texas between 1836 to 1846. Gen. Houston served as the state’s governor during two non-consecutive terms too. Huntsville, TX is famous as the location where Sam Houston resided and was later buried.
The Walker County Historical Commission in Huntsville, TX lives up to its motto “To protect and preserve the county’s historical and prehistoric resources.” I am proud to offer merchandise and books on behalf of our organization.
